A credit check, also known as a credit search, is when a company looks at information from your credit report to understand your financial and credit history.
We run a soft credit check to provide you with a Mortgage in Principle (MIP) and a full credit check to review any possible risks with your application before issuing your mortgage offer.
Soft credit checks
A soft credit check otherwise known as a soft footprint is an initial look at certain information held on your credit report.
Our search won’t be visible to anyone and has no impact on your credit score or any future credit applications you might make as it's not visible to lenders and can only be seen by you.
Hard credit checks
A 'hard' or 'full' credit search is when we take a full look at your credit score during our assessment of your mortgage application.
We will ask your permission before confirming this check as this will leave a mark on your credit report and be visible so that other lenders can see when you applied and if your application was accepted.
Having multiple hard searches or ‘hard footprints’ on your credit file within a short period of time can have a negative impact on your credit score and your ability to apply for credit in future.
